Saguaro Sunset

There’s a quiet, almost sacred stillness in this painting. The sky feels like a tender exhale at the end of a long, sun-drenched day with soft yellows melting into gentle oranges and calming blues. The colors soothe, creating that in-between moment when the world hasn’t gone dark yet, but the rush of the day has finally let go.

The saguaro stands like a solitary guardian, its arms lifted in a calm, grounded presence. It feels both strong and vulnerable, rooted in a harsh landscape, yet bathed in this delicate, forgiving light. There’s a sense of resilience here, of a life that has adapted to heat, drought, and time, and still finds a way to be quietly majestic.

The piece carries a mix of serenity and longing. It evokes the feeling of standing alone in the desert at dusk, hearing almost nothing, yet feeling completely held by the vastness around you. It’s peaceful, introspective, and a little bittersweet, like remembering a place you love and realizing how small you are in comparison, but in a way that’s comforting rather than frightening.

This painting was selected for an exhibition entitled, “Greater Phoenix Pastimes” by the Greater Phoenix Economic Council in 2023.
