Papago Sunset
This painting was selected for the Color, Cloth and Culture virtual exhibit at the Greater Phoenix Economic Council from November, 20025 until May, 2026.
The whole scene feels like a deep, contented sigh at the end of a long day. The sky burns with rich oranges, pinks, and golds that spill down into the water, as if the world itself is glowing from within. The reflections feel almost dreamlike, blurring the line between what’s real and what’s remembered. The dark silhouettes of the palm trees and grasses cradle the light, giving the painting a sense of safety and quiet shelter, like a secret place you go to be alone with your thoughts.
There’s a gentle tension between warmth and stillness here: the sky is alive and pulsing with color, but the water is calm, holding everything in a soft embrace. It feels like a moment of transition between day and night, noise and silence, and activity and rest. Emotionally, it carries that mix of nostalgia and hope: the kind of sunset that makes you think about everything you’ve lived through while also whispering that tomorrow can be beautiful, too.
