Cold Day on the Lake

This painting feels like the kind of winter day when the world finally goes quiet. A soft, silvery light settles over everything – the sky, the snow, the still water -blurring the edges between earth and air. The solitary tree stands like a patient witness, its bare branches etched against the pale sky, holding the memory of seasons past. There’s a gentle weight to the snow, the way it hugs the ground and presses sound into silence, as if every noise has been lovingly tucked under a white blanket.

The bench is what tugs at the heart most. Empty, waiting, it suggests someone has just left…or is about to arrive. It feels like an invitation – to sit, to breathe, to let your thoughts unspool in the cold, clean air. There’s a bittersweetness here: a touch of loneliness, but also a deep peace that only comes when you allow yourself to be alone with your own feelings.

The cool blues and greys don’t feel harsh; they feel honest. They carry the quiet ache of nostalgia—childhood winters, long walks, the sting of cold on your cheeks, the warmth of coming back inside. It’s a painting that doesn’t shout. It gently reaches for you, asking you to slow down, to remember, and to let yourself be held for a moment in winter’s calm embrace.
