Brighton Blues

This painting feels like you’re standing on a lonely shore just before a storm breaks. The water is restless, all shifting blues and greys, as if every wave carries a knot of unspoken thoughts. The white foam chopping across the surface is urgent, like emotions that can’t quite settle, rising and falling without resolution. There’s a sense of tension in the water, a push and pull between wanting to surge forward and being dragged back.

Above it, the sky hangs heavy, layered with brooding clouds. It feels like a weight in the chest – a gathering of worries, memories, or unresolved feelings. Yet, when the light breaks through, even faintly, there’s a quiet promise that this mood won’t last forever. It speaks to resilience – how we learn to breathe with the waves, even when the sky feels too low and the wind too sharp. It’s the feeling of being humbled by something bigger than yourself, yet strangely comforted by its rhythm, as if the water is saying: you’re not alone in your storms.
