This painting was inspired by an outstanding image taken by photographer, Shakil Chowdhury, whom I follow on Instagram. (Yes, he gave me permission to paint this!) The artwork of Cathedral Rock in Sedona, Arizona falls into the Contemporary Landscape category, blending realism with abstract elements. The detailed depiction of Cathedral Rock contrasts with the more abstract rendering of the night sky, where the stars and Milky Way appear almost dreamlike. The focus on a natural scene, especially the night sky, places it within the landscape genre, while the combination of precise detail and looser, atmospheric elements gives it a modern twist.
